Set of 3 Oregon G6 Gator mulching blades for Spartan 48" mowers. These blades make excellent replacements for Spartan part number438-0004-00 and 438-0008-00. What are "G6" Gator Blades???
Oregon is the original manufacturer of the "Gator" blades. They generally come in 3 versions. G3 is similar in size and weight to the original mower blade. G6 blades were wider, thicker and heavier than the originals. To satisfy demand, Oregon produced a G5 blade as well. The G5's have the same characteristics as the G6 but will bethe same thickness as the originals. Some users felt the excessive weight of G6 blades could accelerate wear and tear so the G5 blade was produced, Why should I buy Gator blades???
1 Gator blades are designed to recirculate the grass clipping into the cutting path resulting in finer clippings for quicker decomposition. This decomposition adds nutrients back into the soil quicker and is less likely to develop diseases that thicker clippings may develop.
2 Unlike a mulching kit, gator blades still discharge out the side. This has several benefits. With a mulching kit it is recommended that the operator only cut off a 1/3 of the grass at a time. Crowding the mulching kit can leave clumps of grass lay behind because the mulching kit cannot handle a large amount of material. Since the Gator blade disperses clippings out the side, it had handle thicker and heavier grass.
3 The Gator blade is wider and thicker than the standard blade. This results in a stronger, longer lasting blade.
4 The G6 Gator blades have a longer cutting edge than most standard blades. This also aids in finer clippings and superior cut.
5 The cutting edge of the Gator blade has a hard surfaced treatment Oregon refers to as Fusion. The process fuses tungsten carbide into the cutting edge resulting in a longer lasting cutting edge.
